Sit on Top Kayaks

Safe, stable, easy to operate, ideal for both beginners and more experienced paddlers who want to play around and explore.

Singles and Doubles available.  Group and Family discounts.    Please see below for details.

Open Canoes

We have a small number of 'Canadian' open canoes for experienced paddlers.  You will need to know how to handle a canoe including being able to self-rescue.   We may ask for a British Canoeing quaification or endorsement from a club, college or other institution.

GIANT Canoes!

If you are a group of 6 or more we can still get you out there in our BIG canoes.   You will be well looked after by experienced skipper who knows the river really well as well as how to make sure everyone had a great time.   This counts as an organised outdoor sport so group sizes of 6 or more are permitted.    link to Giant Canoes.

Guides and Group Actvities

We can also organise guided canoe trips for 3-4 people and adventurous river activities for larger groups.   Link to guides and activities.

One of the biggest advantages of sit on tops is that complete novices can become great paddlers in a matter of minutes!! They are much safer than inflatables, faster in the water so you can get to great locations, and robust so you can pull them up on the slipways when you get there.

If you are late in returning the boat you will be charged for a full day.
Where we operate:
We are centrally located on the river Dart in the small village of Stoke Gabriel. We operate our boats on the quay which has the lovely River Shack cafe and a car park (£5 for the day)
Two hours is our minumum hire time which allows you to get somewhere and back, with a brief stop (stretch!).
Three hours allows you to go a little bit further or have a more decent stop, eg for a swim, exmplore or chill somewhere quiet, or have a drink in a pub. Riverside pubs can be found on Bow creek at the Malsters Arms or downriver at Dittisham, with time to explore this unique Devon village.
Up to six hours allows to you to really explore if you're feeling fit and super-adventurous, or time to eat in one of the pubs or cafes if you want to make an easier day of it.
What we provide:
Our kayaks are brand new and suitable for total beginners being very stable and fitted with backrests. We also supply you with paddles, buoyancy aids plus a dry bag to carry your own gear. We will talk to you on arrival to understand your plans and then come up with ideas that you can choose from depending on tidal and weather conditions.

Buoyancy aids are provided to everyone going onto the water and must be worn at all times.

All under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult who must be able to swim 50m, and everyone must be comfortable around water.

Advance Booking is strongly recommended.

What to Bring:
You will get a wet bum so having a change of clothing and towel makes stopping off at the pub or driving home more comfortable.
We do not provide paddle clothing so suggest you come dressed in shorts and non cotton t-shirt and hat if it's sunny, with sun cream and bottled water. If it's looking cooler or wet then we advise jogging bottoms, warm jumper, waterproofs or a wetsuit. Shoes that are grippy and you don’t mind getting muddy or wet are also essential. Having water or juice to drink whilst paddling and packed lunch is also good paddling practice and we provide dry bags for you to carry this in.
Any questions please don't be embarrassed to call, we would rather you came properly prepared for a great day out on the water!
Your safety is our first priority and we reserve the right not to hire if we feel the tides or weather conditions are not suitable, irrespective of the paddlers ability.
